Weeks 3 & 4Math: We worked through whole number place value, rounding and comparing & ordering numbers. Students had great results on their assessment of these concepts. Then we began our journey into decimal numbers. With decimal numbers we pulled out our base 10 manipulatives and accessed a fantastic math app that let us build models without the worry of dropping out base 10 pieces on the floor. (Plus they can practice with this app at home!) The students loved it! We had the app up on the panel and they were able to use the app on their chromebooks. We will continue with comparing & ordering decimal numbers, showing decimal numbers with models, money pieces, fractions, and representing decimal numbers on a number line. Science: We are continuing to learn about MATTER, the properties of matter, how matter changes states, measuring matter, identifying types of matter including mixtures and solutions, and classifying matter. Students worked on a Matter Learning Pathway, where they worked at their own pace through several activities: Read It, Tech It, Draw It, Sort It, Match It, and Reflect On It! Each part of this process was recorded in their matter learning pathway booklet. In addition, to get the hands-on practice, we are using our science process skills and working through stations that allow us to practice with a team of scientists to use our skills of measuring length, mass, volume, practice classifying, making graphs of data, drawing conclusions based on observations, etc. just like real scientists do when they experiment.
